Nonthaburi is officially classified as a separate city/province but it is actually like a suburb of Bangkok due to its very close proximity to Bangkok. The colorful Nonthaburi pier on the Chao Phraya River is the main point for commuters traveling back and forth to various places in Bangkok, and is particularly busy during daylight hours. Almost every commuter boat with various flag colors stops at Nonthaburi.

From the pier one can see the old fashioned clock tower, and just beyond is the big central market with hundreds of small stalls, selling just about everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, to tofu, to chicken, pork, beef and the most amazing looking seafood. This market is half indoor/half outdoor, and its sheer authenticity make it a fabulous place to explore.
